Rental equipment often reflects the attitude of the dive center. Even if you have all your own, check out the rental equipment. Things to ask or look for:
Is it a well known brand name and is there enough in stock for all sizes?Do they regularly service and maintain all equipment by trained and certified service technicians and keep records to prove this? The rental equipment is a good indicator of the operator's attitude to safety. Be suspicious if kit is cheap to rent. Good equipment and proper maintenance is not cheap! Are the dive cylinders hydrostatically tested (according to local law) and are the cylinders and valves in good shape? Very importantly is the air clean? To test it: Open the tank valve, cup your hand and smell the air. It should be odorless. Are there monitoring devices installed on the compressor to check the air and make sure filters are changed in time - a good center should have this system.Does the center offer Enriched Air Nitrox? Very popular for it's additional health and safety benefits this is now offered at all good dive centers along with the certification courses.
