Does the dive center have the correct staff for all the levels of training and diving that they offer year round? Is all staff trained in First Aid, CPR and Oxygen use in order to help in the rare event of an accident? Are the PADI Instructors continuing their education too? In diving there is always more to learn to keep passion and interest levels high!Is the dive center employing and training local people? It is very important to give back to the communities that support us. Dive Bequia directly employs local staff members who are trained to be Boat Captains or Professional Divers. We currently offer annual diver training, environmental education and career advice to Vincentian community youth group Off the Grid and the Bequia Coastguard Cadets.
Dive Bequia can answer YES to all of these questions.
Owner of Dive Bequia, Bob Sachs learned to dive with the YMCA in the early 1970's in the cold waters of New Jersey. Bob was a keen wreck diver in what is known as the Atlantic graveyard and he co-owned Lakeland Divers on route 10 in East Hanover New Jersey for 6 years. While running dive trips to the Bahamas, Bob met Bill Tewes and together they went on to Papua New Guinea running a dive centre in Madang. Bob and Bill returned to the Caribbean in 1983 and purchased Dive St. Vincent.
Nine months later Bob opened Dive Bequia with six regulators, a pull cord compressor and a huge enthusiasm for the underwater world and having a good time! Bob is still active in the dive shop - socializing and diving with his daughter Robyn. (One thing to be prepared for when you come to Dive Bequia, is a good time!) Wherever you go in the islands, you'll hear divers mention Bob Sachs and recommend that you check out Dive Bequia.
Cathy came to Bequia in 1995 from the UK, took a beginners dive course with Dive Bequia and went on to become a PADI Instructor.
Cathy can answer questions on routes to get to Bequia... and routes you can take in your diving career. She will also call around to find accommodation to suit your needs and fancies. Direct general enquiries her way and she will help you have a perfect vacation in Bequia.
Charlie, our Blue Fronted Amazon and the shop mascot, came to Dive Bequia in December 2004.
He has a colourful vocabulary which luckily is disguised by his vincy accent! He will greet you with "Good Morning" no matter what time of day it is. He is now 12 years old and enjoys a scratch on the back of his neck and will love you forever if you bring him a passionfruit.
Charlie is so popular he even has his own Facebook page. If you would like to be his friend click here.
Punsan is our PADI Divemaster, Boat Driver and helpful surface support. He has also completed his PADI Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Emergency First Response and Rescue courses.
