Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in Bequia
A Fantastic Start to the 2025–2026 Season
The 2025–2026 season at Dive Bequia Dive Shop has kicked off in the best possible way, and we couldn’t be happier! From day one, we’ve been sharing unforgettable moments on scuba diving and snorkeling trips in Bequia, enjoying excellent conditions, warm water, and fantastic visibility. We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming divers and snorkelers from all over the world, creating great energy both underwater and at the Dive Shop.
There has been huge interest in our Basic Diver courses, and it’s been especially heartwarming to see new divers discovering the underwater world for the very first time. Our Try Dive and Bubblemaker programs have allowed our youngest ocean explorers to experience their first breaths underwater in a safe, fun, and relaxed environment. First dives, big smiles, and memories that last a lifetime – this is exactly why we love what we do.
Dive Bequia Dive Shop Upgrades – New Compressor, New Equipment, and New Experiences
We’ve also been busy on land improving our facilities and overall Dive Shop experience. The Dive Bequia Dive Shop has been refreshed, creating an even more comfortable, functional, and welcoming space for our divers and snorkelers.
While updating the Dive Bequia website, online shop, and social media, our focus naturally expanded to other improvements at the Dive Shop itself. What started as ideas on paper has now moved fully into real-world upgrades. Kalle has built a brand-new Filling Station, providing a dedicated and safe area where our new compressor operates flawlessly. This upgrade ensures consistent air quality, efficient tank fills, and smooth daily operations — all essential elements of safe diving.
Cathy has truly transformed the look and feel of the Dive Shop by taking on the role of our Official Painting Master. Her work has added fresh color, character, and warmth to the space, along with beautiful and practical hand-painted signposts that guide our guests and add a uniquely Bequia-style touch.
In addition to these structural upgrades, we’ve invested in new scuba diving equipment, including masks, BCDs, and brand-new tanks. Safety is always our top priority, and regular equipment renewal and professional servicing are key parts of that commitment. High-quality, well-maintained gear means better comfort, greater confidence, and safer dives for everyone who joins us underwater.
We’re also pleased to share that we now hold alcohol service licenses, making it possible to relax together with a cold, refreshing drink after a great day of diving. Sharing stories, laughter, and post-dive smiles is all part of the Dive Bequia spirit.
And finally, when it comes to permits, we hold the required Spear Gun permit, which is mandatory in Bequia. It’s important to note that spear fishing is prohibited in several areas around the island, a regulation designed to protect marine life and preserve the health of our reefs. We’re always happy to help visitors understand local regulations and promote responsible ocean practices.
These upgrades reflect our ongoing commitment to safety, sustainability, and creating memorable diving and snorkeling experiences — both above and below the surface.

Coral Nursery and Reef Conservation in Bequia – Looking Back and Looking Ahead
Coral reef conservation has long been a core value at Dive Bequia Dive Shop, and during 2022 and 2024 we were proud to be part of an ambitious and meaningful Coral Nursery project in Bequia. In mid-June 2022, we successfully established Bequia’s first coral nursery, with the goal of supporting reef regeneration at Devil’s Table and other sites along the leeward coast.
The project was the result of nearly five years of planning, research, discussion, and persistence. After countless conversations and preparations, the idea finally became reality. We installed ten coral nursery trees, fully stocked with Acropora palmata (Elkhorn coral) — one of the Caribbean’s most important reef-building coral species. Our long-term vision at the time was to expand the nursery and eventually introduce additional coral species to strengthen reef diversity and resilience.
Throughout the project, the nursery structures were carefully maintained to give the corals the best possible conditions for growth and survival. Each coral fragment was closely monitored, and once corals reached an appropriate size, the plan was to outplant them back onto the reef, where their progress would continue to be documented.
Every step of the process was meticulously recorded. From selecting donor corals to hanging individual fragments, we logged coral origins, took before-and-after photos, assigned each structure its own nursery “tree,” and tracked survival and growth rates. This data-driven approach allowed us to evaluate how corals from different areas performed and helped guide future restoration decisions.
This project would not have been possible without the generous support of the SVG Conservation Fund, whose funding enabled us to establish the nursery and sustain the work through at least two outplanting cycles. We were also incredibly fortunate to receive guidance and hands-on support from Ken Nedimyer of Nedimyer Consulting Services. Ken, along with his wife Denise and volunteers Andrew and Deidre, worked tirelessly with us, sharing their expertise, materials, and practical knowledge. Their energy, efficiency, and attention to detail played a crucial role in the success of the project.
However, following the heartbreaking loss of Bob, Cathy’s husband and the founder of Dive Bequia, and shortly after the impact of Hurricane Beryl our focus and resources had to shift. During this difficult period, there simply wasn’t the capacity — emotionally or practically — to continue the coral nursery work. As a result, the project was placed on hold.
Now, with time, healing, and the support of a new and strengthened team, the idea of reviving this important reef conservation project in Bequia has once again come into our thoughts. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the passion for protecting and restoring Bequia’s reefs remains strong, and we are hopeful that, in the future, we may once again be able to dedicate the energy this meaningful project deserves.
We’ll be sure to share updates as these plans continue to develop — and we look forward to the day when coral restoration once again becomes an active part of our journey. 🌱

Dive Bequia for Sale
When Cathy announced that she wanted to sell her company, Dive Bequia, some people started a rumor that we had shut down. This is absolutely not true. We have upgraded our equipment and boats, sold old dive gear to make room for new, and renovated the dive center. Dive Bequia for sale.
Cathy: –”Very simply, without Bob, the dive shop just isn’t the same for me. I won’t be leaving Bequia but my plan is to be able to see our daughters more often and to enjoy my adopted home”.
